Roy Updated: "Roy is doing great. My daughter rides him about every other day and loves him so much!!!" Quote from the mom of Roy Roger's owner, a teenage girl who needed of a confidence building mount for working cattle on their ranch.
Meet Roy Rogers! 14 hh quarter pony (that takes up a lot of leg - have pictures of someone 5'8 riding him and they look great together!) with the most patient and loving personality. He’s grade, so we don’t know his exact age, but think he’s in his later teens, maybe 20. Don’t let his age fool you, this guy requires zero maintenance, stays fat on air, and is barefoot. Sure, he's older, but he takes almost no money for upkeep. No supplements. No extras. He's simply Roy Rogers.
Have a little one you want to ride but need a bombproof horse so you don't have to worry? Roy. Have a grandma that wants to continue riding but is nervous? Roy. Have a man in your life who has no idea about horses but has an ego bigger than Mt. Everest so they're certain they can ride with zero experience (you know, arms flapping, butt bouncing, pulling and kicking at the same time)? Roy.
Dogs? Loves them. Drones? Zero fear. Polaris? Not phased. New places? Cool as a cucumber. Have an itty bitty just learning to walk and you want to be sure they'll be safe around your horse? Roy. Need to lead line your little (or maybe the man mentioned before)? Roy's your guy.
Roy loves to tote around beginners but has buttons for the more advanced rider. He has more woah than go, but if asked, will run his heart (but he's not winning any races) out for his kid. He’s lowest in the herd, patiently waits to be fed, gets along with geldings and mares, stays outside 24/7 (but is perfectly happy in a stall), will come up to you to be caught, leans his head in for a halter and bit, stands to be mounted, ties for days, and loads on his own. Stands like a gentleman for the farrier and vet. He is an absolute angel on the ground and patient under saddle.
Crawl under him. Swim. Slide off his butt. Backflip off him. Jump logs and cross rails. Go to game shows. Trail ride. Arena work. Pony him or pony off him. If you can think of it, he'll do it.
